You have reached this page because you are looking for more information on how my pigs are processed. Well here it goes...

I raise Landrace/Yorkshire/Duroc cross pigs that I purchase as piglets from Old Iron Ranch in Creston, BC. These pigs are fantastic and grow out extremely well. When they have reached their grow out weight, I transport the pigs live to Tarzwell Abattoir in Creston, BC, who is government inspected and handles the slaughter. They then transport the carcasses to Legendary Meats in South Slocan (at the junction), who takes care of cut/wrap and smoking services.


Half and whole pigs are $5.50/lb hanging weight paid to me (minus any discounts that may apply), then you would pay separate cut/wrap costs to Legendary Meats for whatever cuts/smoking you would want with your half or whole.

Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass after initial slaughter and processing with the skin, head and some organs removed. The actual meat you will receive after Legendary Meats is done is typically 70% +/- of the hanging weight (bones removed, ect).

 

You can expect the whole pigs to weigh between 175-250 lbs hanging weight.

 

Cut/wrap costs vary depending on what you want done with your half or whole pig. I would recommend calling Legendary Meats or visit their website for more info, however, here are a few links to their cut sheets and custom cutting order forms, to give you a better idea:

To secure your half or whole pig, I am asking for a $400 deposit which can be paid via e-transfer. Please contact me if you would like to proceed and I will send you my email address. Once I know final hanging weights from Tarzwell Abattoir, the remainder needs to be paid to me prior to dealing with Legendary Meats.

Once you are paid up in full, I will let Legendary Meats know which half or whole pig belongs to which customer.

To help you out, I am willing to pickup your order from Legendary Meats when it is complete, and delivery it to you, within the Nelson, Castlegar, Trail area, for no cost. (Yep, that's my time and gas, to help make this process easier for you). Also, if you are low on freezer space, I could potentially store your meat products in my freezers, and you pick-up your meat when you need it.

Once full payment has been received for the hanging weight, I will send an invoice/receipt to you for both of our records.
