HI, MY NAME IS STEVE!

I left shift-work and the corporate world behind to find freedom and to build and create a sustainable, regenerative farm from scratch!! Woah, let me backup a bit…

In 2020, my two boys Levi and Kale, my cat Lola and I moved from a small corner lot in town to 16 acres in the country. Leaving behind the manicured lawn, I wanted a new challenge, to accomplish a new goal and to live a new lifestyle. Well, I got all three plus a whole lot more! Living the country life took some adjusting, but the scenery, the sounds of nature and the dark starry skies outweigh the stink bugs, the flies and the rodents. Working and cultivating the land, growing my own food, and raising livestock will be a lifelong journey and new adventure that I have very little experience in, but a whole lot of determination and willingness to learn. Woah woah, let me backup a little bit more…

A lifetime ago, my passion in life was creating art. Being creative was a huge aspect of my youth and early adulthood. Well heck, after high school, I went on to complete 6 years of art education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Animation from the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. As time went on, being creative and was not enough for the family, so I shifted gears and entered the Pulp & Paper industry where I worked in Health & Safety to pay the bills. Fast forward 12 years and Freedom thru Farming was born, farm life has begun…

I think of myself as a continuous learner. Well, I have no shortage of learning to do or projects around the farm to complete. This path I am choosing to follow will be a lifelong journey, with ups and downs, heartache and sadness, passion and pleasure, and yummy food! Besides starting a farm with little to no experience and creating art again (visit the shop to view my original t-shirt designs), let’s just throw in some good ol’ video production and editing and film this crazy journey, all the the projects and infrastructure I gotta build, the animals and their personalities and daily life.

By sharing my journey, I hope to inspire others to find freedom and to learn from my tribulations or triumphs. I am and will be striving to apply regenerative agriculture, permaculture principles, rotational grazing, no-till, lasagna gardening and composting for my farm and encourage others to do the same.

Thank you for following my adventure and reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

Cheers,

Steve
